The Illusion

Hey you, walking down the street.

Yes, you!

Did you know?

Those buildings you just passed in a rush-

It was once a warm, forest home to

Families

Different from us, but equally important.

That sweater you are wearing-

It had been painstakingly hand-made by

Children

Not much older than your baby daughter.

That dirty, soaked newspaper you just crushed underfoot-

It was once the

Heart

Of a living tree, murdered to satisfy your daily gossip.

Our pretty, sugar-coated world is an

Illusion

Hiding its real face under the surface-

A dark, destroyed face

That only us,

The ones who destroy,

Can fix.
