Trolls, and Giants, and Wizards Oh My? Escape from Ragnarok Mountain turned out better than anyone could have hoped. This year’s senior grade 12 production was an action-packed adventure brimming with excitement.

The play follows five seemingly meek English children on a mission to find the ever magical Ragna Rock. On their way, they run into vivacious Ice warrior maidens, mystical elves and the evil wizard, Deorc.

The Drama 12 class overcame many obstacles to produce the play. The teacher strike affected night time performances of Cabaret, budget cuts forced them to navigate around old costumes and props, and the popular Chief Sepass theater was not always available for practices. However, these obstacles did not stop the Grade 12’s from succeeding. Rather than being bogged down by all the challenges, they came up with creative solutions.

The costume team, headed by Skylar Thompson, did an impeccable job of complimenting each scene. Skylar made sure to clean all the less than desirable costumes and even handmade each of the bird wings.

Stuart Kosterman spent countless classes picking out each prop for every character. He also headed a team of rabid painters who made sure to touch up each and every prop.

The indispensable Rhys Krannitz had an especially tough time of visually staging each scene. With disappearances, magical spells, and an epic battle, Krannitz had his work cut out for him. He successfully created a magical atmosphere that gave the show the extra ‘oomph’ that was needed.

Mrs. Fowlis, as director and all around star, geared the Grade 12’s into what was an amazing show. Although the play was children’s theater, it proved to be a fun event for everyone.

To the cast and crew of Escape from Ragnarok Mountain, bravo, and we hope to see you back on stage soon.
