Mrs. Mason’s Grade 3 class celebrates Nickolas Tarasenko, the first ever Hat Hall of Fame inductee. In order to achieve this honour, Nickolas passed the 100 hours of reading mark since the contest began at the start of

school in September. As a reward, Nickolas had the chance to design a hat for Mrs. Mason, which she had to wear for the whole school day.

Students work their way up to this reward.  Every ten hours of reading receives a small prize:  a bookmark, pencil, eraser, sharpener, and so on. Nickolas’s favorite rewards so far have been the polished stone he received for 60 hours or reading, and a jewel decorated treasure chest for 80 hours of reading.

Nickolas’s favourite books have been 39 Clues by Peter Lerangis and the Geronimo Stilton books. When asked how he finds the time to fit in so much reading, he stated: “I only watch TV on the weekends and use the computer or Wii once or twice a week. Everyone in my family prefers reading to any other home activity.

Congratulations, Nickolas.
