Photo Majors Field Trip – Surrey New and Used

Arts, Events, Majors, Photography

Photography majors recently went on a field trip to Surrey New and Used. While taking pictures, students considered composition, texture and shapes. Each student took more than one roll (about 35 photos). Some students chose black and white film to create a toned-down mood whereas the other students used digital to explore different angles of an object.

Through this experience the students learned that it isn’t the subject or the setting that makes the photo interesting. It is the photographer’s job to discover unique characteristics in mundane objects and the technique to create a well-framed, balanced photo.

By visiting Surrey New and Used, the photography majors were informed where all the used items end up. The students realized that all their waste doesn’t¬†disappear just because the trash is out of their sight. As a result, the majors became more responsible for their actions and waste. After the field trip, the photo majors did a sharing during the class time to share their opinions and thoughts on the field trip and the different perspectives of photography¬†approaches.
