PKSS Clothing Sale a Huge Success!

It took a determined LFAS mom, a good friend from Ontario, and a whole team of family, friends, staff and students to create a clothing sale that turned the LFAS gymnasium into a shopping mall and kept the 1400 pieces of clothing that were sold out of landfills.

LFAS parent, and Project Kenya Sister Schools, Vice-President, Vicki Brimacombe, spearheaded the event. She was inspired by her friend and breast cancer survivor, Suzanne Jakubowski, who has held a similar yearly event in Toronto for a non-profit support group called Cancer Support Services. Suzanne flew out from Toronto to assist with the LFAS event.

Vicki began collecting the clothes in January, storing them in the family garage. She invited teams of people to her home to sort and bag the thousands of donated items. In all, 200 large bags of clothing were collected and sorted, including MISS ME jeans with the original price tag of $140, brand new Toms shoes, a brand new Danier leather jacket, 2 vintage fur coats and many other unworn and lightly worn items.

The majority of the items were sold for $2.00. Shoppers came from all over Langley to take advantage of the bargains. They were thrilled to walk away with  bags full of high quality clothes that cost them very little. Families with children were particularly excited about the event as there was a large selection of children’s clothes.

American musician, Macklemore, generously donated a signed CD and T-shirt which was won by LFAS student Madison Holman.

Along with a bake sale, the event raised close to $3000.000 for Project Kenya Sister Schools.
