Nicoletta Ceccoli

Nicoletta Ceccoli

Nicoletta Ceccoli is an Italian illustrator who is well known for her gloomy-whimsical styled illustrations. She studied animation at the Institute of Art in San Marino, Italy. The artist’s paintings have an interesting balance between haunting and uplifting.

Most of Ceccoli’s works are used in children’s books, mainly in Italy, in the USA and in the UK. She has been working in this field since 1995.

Ceccoli’s love for dolls are obvious in most of her works. The dreamlike characters of Ceccoli have been influenced by artists such as Remedios Varo, Domenico Gnoli, Paolo Uccello, Mark Ryden, Edward Gorey, Winsor MaKay and Ray Caesar.

Her work is a visual poetry layered with metaphor. Upon first glance, her paintings are youthful and innocent. However, when inspected in greater detail, Ceccoli’s creations reveal a wealth of intricate and thought-provoking details.
