On Your Mark Visual Art Celebration

On Your Mark, a celebration of 20 years of visual art at the Langley Fine Arts School, opened its doors at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver on May 10. Organized by LFAS visual art teachers, Nancy Crawford and Kayla Preston, the show ran for two weeks and featured artworks from more than 80 alumni artists from multiple disciplines.

Q. How does it feel coming back?

A. It feels good and surprising. Time flies and I could see that some people changed direction.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. I went to Emily Carr and graduated with a Bachelors.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. Continuing with artwork, faux finishing, sculpture and painting.

Q. How does it feel coming back?

A. Different. Seeing familiar faces, feels like coming back to high school.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. I graduated with a degree in sculpture and integrated studio arts.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. I work at Vancouver film school, make and sell art, teach at Leids Art and do after school programs teaching math and art.

A. It’s fun to see the teachers!

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Concordiat NSCAD, BFA major in painting.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. I am an artist. I sell art to interior designers and my private clients all over the world.

Q. How does it feel coming back?

A. Really great! Meeting people I haven’t seen. Great to see everyone celebrate and years of work coming together.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. I’m in my 4th year at Emily Carr in illustration.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. Summer classes at Emily Carr and hoping for co-op.

Q. What is your dream?

A. Character Design, ceramics. I like doing 3D work so maintain doing it.

A. Weird. I feel nervous and excited.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Emily Carr, finished 2nd year in painting.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. Working at shops. Make-up, job applying.

Q. What is your dream?

A. To be an English teacher.

A. I feel like it’s been a long trip, worth it. Good to see high school people again and see their work.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Full time student in Calarts University doing Character Animations.

Q. What is your dream?

A. Would like to work in Animation Industry. Try new things

A. Weird, nervous like a flash back. This event is inspiring.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Pratt Institute in Industrial Design.

Q. What is your dream?

A. To get internships in different countries and building a strong portfolio.

A. Cool! What everyone’s done is so incredible. Feels like a time travel meeting the people from my year. Neat experience.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Diploma at Kootanay School of Arts. Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. BFA at Concordia University

Q. What is your dream?

A. Painting professor and selling paintings.

A. Good to see others work, how they are doing. Great work on this exhibition. Very proud of the LFAS grad.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Emily Carr going into 3rd year.

Q. What do you do right now?

A. Working at a wedding shop called “White Daisy”.

Q. What is your dream?

A. Doing fashion and costume design and being a happy person.

A. Very astonishing. Feels like I never left LFAS in the first place.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. I am taking a full intensive character animation at California Institute of the Arts.

Q. What is your dream?

A. Becoming a film maker. I really like making films.

A. Emotional, really excited to be in this process.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Emily Carr. A bachelor’s degree in communication design.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. I am a designer at Creative Engine.

Q. What is your dream?

A. To have my own studio, become a creative art director.

Q. How do you feel coming back?

A. It still feels unreal. Wonderful to see old friends, teachers, and other art works. It feels like I just met them yesterday, like I’ve never been away from a year. Also feels familiar in a strange way.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I am studying sculpting and performance. I am an orientation leader.

Q. What is your dream?

A. Continue with fine arts, and keep working on sculpture and performance.

A. The gallery is amazing.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Art Center College of Design

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. Transportation design.

Q. How to you feel coming back?

A. It’s incredible, overwhelming; I didn’t realize all the different art pieces would be here.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. Sheridan College. I got a BFA for animation.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. Freelance illustration, full time at an animation studio in Toronto called Guru.

Q. What is your dream?

A. To do full time freelance illustration and to publish a graphic novel.

A. It’s just amazing. I didn’t know this would happen. It’s been a long time since I’ve met the teachers.

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. I did illustration at School of Visual Arts and got a BFA.

A. I am a textile designer, working at Tom Cody Design,

Q. What is your dream?

A. It’s always changing. I do like my job, but I’d like to figure out what I want to do. I want to keep exploring.

A. I love the variety of work, it’s great that they integrated the grad show. Fantastic job!

Q. Where did you go after graduating?

A. I went to Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. I got a BFA on illustration.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. I work at Kohl’s Department Store, creating art for home and novelty children’s art.

Q. What is your dream?

A. Becoming a full time freelance illustrator.
