Start Studios Opening

Recently, members of Blue Dog Press celebrated the grand-opening of the new recording studio, Start Studios.

The beautifully designed recording studio includes a top of the line sound system, a green screen, an audio and video editing program, and professional lighting.

On the night of the opening, Blue Dog Press members brought food and drinks; banners and balloons were hung, and thank-you notes littered the whiteboards in the writing room. The celebration featured performances by Paiden Stanley who sang and played guitar, along with Ethan Honeywell, Andrew Wilkes, Thomas Tavener and Stephen Duncan who sang a barbershop quartet.

At the opening of the celebration, Mr. Bonnar personally thanked LFAS parents, Christine and Graham Schmidt, for their generous donation of $17,000 towards the construction of the studio, as well as Andrew Spindor who designed the studio. Another huge thank you was directed towards the school board staff, including the electricians, carpenters and painters whose creativity completed the vision.

Mr. Scotton and Andrew Spindor as well as a dedicated group of students meet every Friday after school to work on a CD to be released in November featuring the original works of students from Langley Fine Arts in collaboration with local artists. Grade 12 students, Sean Watson, Carsten Jartved-Schwartz, Julien Chevallier, and Drey Bombardier have been training to operate the sound equipment with Andrew Spindor since September.

Since its completion, the studio has been used for a number of projects, including interviews with Dan Mangan, David Bouchard, and Bria Skonberg for Arts Matters, and a variety Blue Dog photos and videos.

Blue Dog Press sends out a sincere thanks to the Schmidt family, Andrew Spindor, Mr. Bonnar, the district, the construction, electrical and painting crews, Bridie Robson, and everyone involved with making our dream of a professional-grade recording studio a reality.
